Build and Release Engineer
Position Summary:
Identify and manage the company’s product release and installation process. The role will include the ownership of builds, release activities and coordination, QA of the install process, and installing software for our customers and internal development, QA, and support teams. Provide 2nd level support for client software installation, environmental, performance and Softrax server installation. The position also maintains the development source code repository.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage the configuration and release process to ensure smooth, stable releases of software products.
- Collaborate with developers and SQA to build, package, and deploy SW
Perform builds for multiple software releases.
- Provide hands-on expertise for build and release engineering and maintain automated build scripts
- Identify Test Strategy, Define Test Plans and Test Cases and Execute Tests to validate install/upgrade packages.
- Work to improve user interface and automation in installation/upgrade packages
- Conduct hardware/software requirements conference calls with customers to ensure preparedness for software installation.
- Provide technical expertise and install software release packages at customer sites via remote web session (GoToMeeting etc.).
- Provide technical expertise and install software release packages for QA/Dev and Support teams.
- Maintain customer installation and upgrade records.
- Administration of source code control repository (Subversion).
- Provide 2nd Tier Technical Support for client software installation, environmental, performance and Softrax server installation.
- Coordinate and collaborate with other departments to resolve Release and Build dependencies to ensure smooth and timely Release Deployments.
Qualifications:
- BS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- 2-5 years experience in designing, developing and coordinating build
- Proficiency in scripting language
- Must be able to respond well to challenging deadlines and to interface well with various disciplines and teams
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Installshield experience or equivalent
- SQL administrative ability (backup, restore, security)
- Comfortable in a customer facing role
- 2-5 years experience in Windows Server, IIS, network and/or application support
